Youth4Youth Climbing Festival brings children together to raise awareness to the support needed for young people facing mental health struggles as well as having a fun time climbing together. We were proud to sponsor this event, giving the use of our in hour climbing wall and four instructors volunteering to belay the children participating. The event was raising money for two charities; Youth Trust and Mountbatten Isle of Wight

The children involved participated in a Speed climb, a Technical Climb and Bouldering with individuals contributing to a team total.

Schools entered six climbers from year five or six who each attempted to raise £15 in sponsorship money. There was a total of 18 children who participated and managed to raised £445, £175 over the amount which was expected. The children were encouraged to bring cash so they could deposit their own sponsor money in the donation bucket. All the children were keen to climb, putting in 100% effort and supporting others as they were climbing.

One of the teachers said:

“The kids love it and were buzzing when they got back school”.

These opportunities are not only good for children to challenge themselves but help with teamwork skills and make children aware of the difference they can make to others less fortunate or struggling.

Each child went away with their certificates, a bookmark (attached) and a sticker as memory of their climbing and fundraising efforts… and a big smile!
