This book is a collection of memories from the many people who put their heart and efforts into making the West Wight Sports & Community Centre what it is today. Starting with a humble beginning, the community centre went on to create a unique and rich history, and memory of which still holds a dear place within the community’s heart. Read along to discover the testaments of the people who nurtured the West Wight Sports & Community Centre into a place that has influenced many lives.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Shirley Miles was a founder member of the West Wight Swimming Club, later becoming the secretary to the club. An avid supporter and fundraiser, she went on to train as a lifeguard and swimming teacher.
Shirley has taught many many children and adults to swim over the years and was awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) in 1988 for services to swimming. Shirley enjoyed every minute of her teaching career and retired in 2020 at the age of 86.
