Shannon and Lucy have been selected to represent the Isle of Wight in this Summers International Island Games in Guernsey. Shannon will be coaching for the Women’s Football team and Lucy will be part of the Swimming team.
Shannon has played football all her life and captained the Isle of Wight women’s representative side in the 2015 Jersey and 2017 Gotland Island Games. Following the 2017 Island Games, Shannon retired from playing and moved into coaching, and manages Shanklin Ladies Football Club. She is excited to be heading to another Island Games in her new role as coach.
Lucy has been swimming from a young age and learnt to swim at West Wight Sports & Community Centre. At age 9 she progressed onto Young Olympians and then became a member of the competitive squad at West Wight. She is now part of both Seaclose and West Wight swimming club having competed at county and regional competitions. It’s a dream come true for Lucy to represent the Isle of Wight in the sport of swimming in Guernsey this July.
It will cost £795 each for Shannon and Lucy to go to Guernsey and they have set themselves a challenge to help raise funds towards this, as well as raise money for West Wight Sports & Community Centre. On Friday 14th April, they will each cycle the distance from the Isle of Wight to Guernsey, a staggering 164 km (as the crow flies) on static bikes. The challenge will begin at 7.30 and take place in the reception area at West Wight Sports & Community Centre. They welcome any support – there will be a third bike available for anyone that fancies cycling with them for a stint – and any donations are greatly appreciated.
