We’re delighted to have secured funding from Communities Against Cancer to run free physical activity sessions, designed to support good health, boost fitness, wellbeing, and help reduce the risk of certain cancers.

Common Cancers in the UK
The most common cancers in the UK are:
- Breast
- Prostate
- Lung
- Bowel (colorectal)
Together, these account for more than half of all new cases each year. Over 400,000 people in the UK are diagnosed with cancer annually.
For women: breast, lung and bowel cancers are the most frequent.
For men: prostate, bowel and lung cancers are the most common.
What to Do if You’re Concerned
Most changes are not caused by cancer, but it’s important to get checked early.
Symptoms to Watch For
- A persistent, unexplained lump anywhere in your body
- Unusual bleeding (for example from the bowel, bladder, or other areas)
- A change in bowel or bladder habits
- Persistent cough, hoarseness or breathlessness
- Unexplained weight loss or appetite changes
- Changes in the skin (new moles, or changes to existing ones)
- Difficulty swallowing or heartburn that doesn’t go away
Take Action
- See your GP if you notice unusual or persistent changes
- Attend screening when invited (breast, bowel, cervical etc.)
- Report new symptoms promptly
How to Stay Well & Reduce Your Risk
Some cancers can’t be prevented, but many risk factors are linked to lifestyle. You can:
- Be physically active – aim for at least 150 minutes per week of moderate activity
- Eat a balanced diet – plenty of fruit, veg, whole grains; limit red and processed meat
- Maintain a healthy weight
- Avoid or stop smoking – smoking is the biggest preventable cause of cancer
- Limit alcohol consumption
- Protect your skin from the sun – use sunscreen and cover up
- Stay up to date with vaccinations – e.g. HPV vaccine, hepatitis vaccines
