Jason Wing Walking

Event update - POSTPONED!

Our Assistant Manager, Jason, has been preparing to take fundraising to new heights with an incredible wing walk in support of West Wight Sports & Community Centre.

The challenge was due to take place at Sandown Airport on Saturday 5th September 2026, where Jason would be securely strapped to the top wing of a vintage biplane. As the aircraft climbed to around 700 feet and reached speeds of up to 135mph, it was set to perform a series of exhilarating aerial manoeuvres. It certainly isn't a challenge for the faint-hearted, but Jason was ready to take on this unforgettable experience to raise vital funds for the Centre.

Unfortunately, we have received notice that the flight has been cancelled and postponed.

The cancellation is due to the severe weather conditions experienced over the past few days, which have prevented the wing-walking team from safely transporting their aircraft to the Isle of Wight in time for the event. The adverse weather has also resulted in the cancellation of several other flights scheduled from Sandown Airport.

While this news is understandably disappointing for Jason and everyone who was looking forward to cheering him on, safety must always come first. We would like to thank everyone for their understanding and continued support.

The good news is that Jason remains committed to completing the challenge, and we will share details of the rescheduled date as soon as they are confirmed.

In the meantime, the fundraising effort continues. Every donation helps West Wight Sports & Community Centre provide opportunities for people of all ages to stay active, healthy and connected through the wide range of activities and services we offer to our local community.

If you would like to support Jason's amazing effort, donations can still be made via his TotalGiving page or at Reception:

Thank you to everyone who has already donated and shown their support. Although the wing walk may be postponed, Jason's determination to make a difference certainly hasn't been.

We look forward to seeing him take to the skies soon. Good luck, Jason. We'll be cheering you on when the big day finally arrives... from the safety of the ground!
