Our Impact
Overview
At West Wight Sports and Community Centre on the Isle of Wight, everything we do is focused on making a positive difference to the lives of people in our community.
As a registered charity, our impact goes far beyond providing facilities—we support health, well‑being, connection and opportunity for people of all ages and abilities across West Wight.
From everyday activities to targeted support programmes, we are proud to play a vital role in helping individuals and the community to thrive.

- Events that bring people together
This wide range of services enables us to reach people at every stage of life.
Supporting Health and Well‑Being
Our programmes are designed to support both physical and mental well‑being.
We help people to:
- Stay active and maintain physical health
- Build confidence and independence
- Improve mobility and strength
- Reduce isolation and improve mental well‑being
- Access support in a welcoming, non‑judgemental environment
Initiatives such as the Parkinson’s Disease course, Relaxation and Rehabilitation Swim, and Really Useful Café demonstrate how we respond to specific community needs.
Building Community Connection
Connection is at the heart of our work.
Through initiatives such as:
- Our Place community sessions
- The Community Connector service
- Local activities and community groups
we provide opportunities for people to meet, build friendships and feel part of something.
This is particularly important for those who may feel isolated or need additional support.
Supporting People When It Matters Most
West Wight has a proud history of stepping up in times of need.
During the COVID pandemic, we led the West Wight Coronavirus Support Hub. Volunteers, staff and partners came together to support hundreds of local residents—providing essential supplies, contact and reassurance.
This spirit of support continues today through our everyday work with individuals and families across the community.
Swimming and Water Safety
As an island community, swimming is a vital life skill.
Through our swimming programmes, we:
- Help children and adults learn to swim
- Promote water confidence and safety
- Support drowning prevention
- Encourage lifelong participation in activity
Generations of local residents have learned to swim at West Wight Sports and Community Centre, creating a lasting and life saving legacy.
Working in Partnership
Our impact is strengthened through collaboration.
We work closely with:
- Local town and parish councils
- Community organisations and groups
- Health and well‑being providers
- Volunteers and supporters
- Businesses and partners
These relationships allow us to extend our reach and deliver services that truly reflect the needs of the West Wight community.
Events That Bring People Together
From everyday sessions to large‑scale events, we create opportunities for connection and participation.
Events such as:
- Needles Half Marathon
- Solent Swim
- Chilly Hilly 10 mile xc race
bring together residents and visitors, promoting activity, fundraising and community pride.
The Difference We Make
Our impact can be seen every day—in small moments and big achievements:
- A child learning to swim
- A new friendship formed at a community session
- Someone rebuilding confidence after illness or injury
- A volunteer making a difference
- A community coming together for an event
These moments add up to something bigger: a stronger, healthier and more connected West Wight.
Looking Ahead
We are committed to continuing and growing our impact by:
- Expanding inclusive programmes
- Supporting more people in need
- Strengthening community partnerships
- Maintaining accessible facilities
- Developing new initiatives based on local need
With the support of our community, partners and funders, we will continue to make a difference for generations to come.
